I was very happy indeed to have a stall for “Handmade by Abbi” at the 10th Annual Breastfeeding Festival which was held at the Milton Keynes University Hospital Academic Centre on Friday 13th September.
Held over two days, the festival attendees (among whom were parents, breastfeeding counsellors, health professionals and charity managers & mentors) attended various talks on a number of breastfeeding topics raising awareness of some of the issues, difficulties and challenges that can be experienced by breastfeeding mothers.
Applauding breastfeeding of any type or duration and recognising that it is not an easy thing to do, The Breastfeeding Festival also allowed the attendees to network, discuss, celebrate and support each other in their breastfeeding journeys and experiences. In addition, there was entertainment for the little ones and some lovely products and edibles on display and for sale!
Attendees of the festival were from all over the UK but Milton Keynes itself has a wide network of breastfeeding support groups including the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) and La Leche League (LLL) with the MK Breastfeeding Alliance bringing all these organisations together to encourage breastfeeding rates up and support new parents in the city.
As a breastfeeding mum myself I thought that The Breastfeeding Festival was an ideal arena to display my Handmade by Abbi products some of which are baby blankets and keepsakes created using outgrown baby clothing. Recycling old or outgrown clothes is becoming very high on the ecological and ethical agenda and I believe my products are an ideal answer as to what to do with old baby clothing.
I have lots of ideas in the making for other clothing recycling projects so watch this space www.handmadebyabbi.com for new recycled and upcycled products as they arrive!
